The Shaping Machine by National Cutting Tools is a rigid, precision machine tool designed for machining flat surfaces, straight grooves, keyways, and dovetail slides using a single-point reciprocating cutting tool. In toolrooms, maintenance shops, and gear manufacturing facilities, generating internal splines, long keyways, and flat surfaces with expensive milling cutters can be economically unfeasible; a shaping machine achieves these cuts using inexpensive standard HSS or carbide tool bits. Constructed from heavy, close-grained cast iron with wide hand-scraped ram ways, the machine features a rocker-arm quick-return mechanism that drives the ram forward at regulated cutting speed and returns it rapidly on the non-cutting stroke. The swiveling toolhead with clapper box lifts the tool clear on the return stroke to preserve the cutting edge, while automatic table cross-feed delivers uniform feed increments per stroke. Hand-Scraped Cast Iron Ram Ways: Deep V-guideways coated with low-friction oil grooves maintain ram straightness over long cutting strokes. Swiveling Toolhead with Clapper Box: Toolhead swivels up to 60 degrees for machining angular bevels and dovetails; clapper box prevents tool drag. Automatic Table Cross-Feed: Mechanical pawl-and-ratchet mechanism advances table automatically on each return stroke. Heavy Universal Swiveling Table: Optional universal table tilts and swivels on multiple axes for compound angle shaping. Multi-Speed Gearbox: Enclosed gear transmission provides four or six ram speeds (strokes per minute) to suit varied workpiece materials.
