1. Upright Column Deflection: Examine vertical upright frames (Omega profile cold-rolled steel). Look for impact dents caused by forklift collisions near floor level. Any upright with an out-of-plumb permanent lateral bend exceeding $3\text{ mm}$ over a 1-meter span is structurally compromised and will buckle under rated capacity.
2. Horizontal Beam Deflection: Inspect load-bearing orange/yellow box beams. While elastic deflection under load is normal (up to $L/200$, or 13 mm on a 2700 mm beam), permanent plastic sag when unloaded means the beam was overloaded beyond yield strength and must be scrapped.
3. Safety Beam Locking Pins: Every beam connector end-plate requires a spring steel safety locking pin to prevent accidental forklift tine dislodgement during lifting. Verify that original safety pins are present in the lot.
4. Footplates and Anchor Bolts: Check whether footplates (baseplates) are bent, cracked, or have sheared anchor holes from careless demolition during godown dismantling.

2. Forklifts and Reach Trucks: Mechanical & Mast Checks

Material handling trucks (diesel, LPG, or electric) are subject to severe mechanical wear:

• Mast Assembly & Roller Bearings: Raise the mast to maximum lift height (3 meters to 7+ meters). Check for binding, mast channel twist, and excessive play in the sealed guide roller bearings.
• Leaf Lift Chains: Inspect the heavy multi-plate leaf lifting chains. Use a chain wear gauge to measure chain elongation. If the chain has stretched by more than 2% over nominal pitch, or if link pin heads show severe flatting from roller rub, both chains must be replaced immediately.
• Hydraulic Lift & Tilt Cylinders: Check for hydraulic fluid weeping past the top rod glands on the main lift cylinder and forward/reverse tilt cylinders. Test under full load: raise a 2-tonne test load 1 meter off the ground, turn off the engine/motor, and monitor for 10 minutes. If the mast slowly creeps downward by more than 25 mm, internal cylinder packings or control valve spools are leaking.
• Fork Tines (Heel Wear): Use a caliper to measure fork blade thickness at the horizontal tip and compare it to the vertical shank near the heel. If the heel has worn down by more than 10% of original nominal thickness from dragging along concrete floors, the forks are condemned under ISO 5057 standards.

3. Electric Forklifts: Traction Battery Health

In battery-operated electric forklifts and reach trucks, the heavy industrial traction lead-acid battery represents 30% to 40% of the entire machine's market value:

1. Specific Gravity Test: Use an optical hydrometer to test electrolyte specific gravity across all individual 2V cells after a full overnight charge. Normal specific gravity should read 1.270 to 1.290 at 30°C. If several cells read under 1.200, those cells have suffered irreversible lead sulphate crystallization (sulfation).
2. Cell Voltage Balance: Measure open-circuit voltage across each 2V cell with a digital multimeter. A fully charged healthy cell reads approximately 2.12V to 2.15V. A voltage discrepancy greater than 0.15V between cells indicates failing battery modules requiring expensive cell replacement.
3. Battery Case Expansion: Check for bulging or cracked polypropylene cell jars caused by thermal runaway from unmonitored rapid charging.

4. Dismantling and Freight Logistics

• Dismantling a 5,000-pallet-position warehouse requires structured labeling of beam sizes and upright heights before loading onto trucks.
• Racks must be bundled with steel strapping and timber dunnage to prevent transport deformation.
